A-Z blogging challenge:
N is for Nuts

To my memory, I haven't met a nut I didn't like. And sitting me next to the mixed nuts, well that's a recipe for an empty bowl. I may pick through and take the cashews first, but it doesn't mean I won't be back to take a whack at the peanuts and Brazil nuts. And trail mix? Don't get me started.

I love nuts so much, in fact, I couldn't help but mimic Elizabeth Barrett Browning...

How do I love nuts? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the cookie, cake and pie
To bake, my soul cries hazelnut, almond,
I love thee for crunch and bite you bring.
Pecan, macadamia and walnut
On top of sundaes, or mixed and roasted.
I love thee freely, without thought to fat.
I love thee purely, roasted or raw.
I love thee with a passion that quits not,
Handfuls on the run, or tossed in salads.
I love thee, pine nut, with a love I never lose,
In pesto, pizza, panzanella, always
Toasted lightly, cashew salty, peanuts
Too, I love you all--and more--each day!

Do you love nuts? What's your favorite nut of all?

What's this A-Z business about? Check out my kick-off post. And stay tuned for the random joy and nonsense I concoct during the month of April!

  1. You are nuts!! Nuts are such a good source of life...they may be addictive but so pleasantly so.

You are already at 'N'...what a trip this has been. So fun for all the rest of us too.

    1. Aw, thanks! It was rather fun.

And yes, the journey is progressing. Some days I'm ready to be done, but other days I think I could do the whole alphabet all over again!

  4. That is a great nut guide. I think I've seen it before... but it is good to know where the most calories are... and the least. It is good thing to like chestnuts.

    1. Well, I don't know if I NEED to know the calories, but it probably helps me limit the number of handfuls... you know, from 10 down to 3 or 4...!

  5. My favourite nuts of all are just a memory, from a long gone walnut tree in my childhood home's garden. The neighbours used to come and shake it, and I even broke my arm once trying to climb it. I'm like you I haven't met a nut I don't like. A little squirrel delivered 3 walnuts to my door before Winter, I'm going to try and plant them.

    1. We have a walnut tree and don't really do anything with them, I'm horrified to say. Maybe this year I'll change that!
