Common miracles: #4

“Rejoicing in ordinary things is not sentimental or trite.
It actually takes guts. Each time we drop our complaints and allow everyday good fortune to inspire us, we enter the warrior’s world.”
–Pema Chodron

For today, common miracles I've noticed...
*The smell of the rain on the ground. It's been warm, so you know that smell... earthy.
*Conversation with a good friend, discussion ranging from worrying to family to politics and hobbies. Knowing and being known is such a gift.
*All the colors of peonies in the front bed, ranging in all shades of pink and hot pink... velvety petals, all 100,000 of them (I was cleaning out a vase of peonies that had been inside all weekend, and boy! that makes you realize how many petals some varieties of peonies have!).
*The quiet stillness of the house when I'm here alone. I love it. The quiet is almost sacred to me sometimes.
*Indian curries. I love a day that includes Indian food.
*Taking off my shoes (any shoes, really), and putting on my slippers at the end of the day. Ah.

  1. So envious you can grow peonies! Most of the things that grow down here have to be "sturdy" and sort of rough-looking. Nothing too delicate. Although I am cheating and just planted a bunch of seeds I had absolutely no business planting at this time of year or in my zone.

I love the smell of the rain on the pavers- although I'm not crazy about rain itself.

And I LOVE having the house to myself- for the first time in days, Tom and Gracie went out yesterday evening and it was incredible. I was going to be all creative and responsible, but I wound up opening the doors and laying on the backyard swing for a few hours, reading and playing Sudoko and listening to podcasts and hanging out with the kitties and Winnie. It was SO blissful, so restorative...

  2. one of my common miracles from this weekend: I was supposed to take Wolf to get his nails trimmed last Sunday, but never got around to it, so did it this past Sunday. This worked out well, since as I was walking out to my car to get my camera, I saw two shibas (and their human) walking in! AND! She's a dog walker! So now I have a backup dog walker who I KNOW is good with shibas! MIRACLE!!!
